Every product we photograph sits on the same black seamless under a single softbox. Constraints like this are what give a portfolio its voice.

The rule

Our set is three metres of black paper, one large softbox and a C-stand we have had since 2014. Every product that comes through the studio is photographed there first, before any styling or campaign work.

The rule started as a budget decision. It became our signature, because one consistent light makes very different products look like they belong to the same family.

What the constraint teaches

With only one light you cannot hide a weak object. Proportions, edges and materials are suddenly all that matter. It is the fastest way we know to see whether a piece of packaging is actually finished.

We still shoot colour, motion and lifestyle work — but always after the product has earned its place on the black.
